Oxidation is Inevitable, but We Have Solutions!
We understand that getting your hair wet in the pool or ocean is bound to happen. Even the shower water at a new location can put your hair at risk for hard water mineral buildup! Cover It!
If it’s covered, it’s more protected from harmful UV rays and other oxidation agents. For your hair, a sunhat is perfect for protecting against the sun and wind. It pulls double duty by protecting your face, too!
Wearing a scarf or bandana will also protect your hair and scalp. Scarves and bandanas are easier to pack into your luggage, alleviating a bit of the stress associated with packing your necessities.
If you’re rocking some color instead of your natural hue, covering your hair also helps protect your color from the harmful rays of the sun. We recommend spritzing some of our Leave-In Conditioner Mist for even more protection from oxidative damage.
As far as your skin’s concerned, when in doubt, COVER IT! Loose, lightweight sleeves and pants will help protect your skin from sun. Added bonus: loose, long clothing can also protect against bug bites — but we don’t want to talk too much about bug bites during a fun trip!
Sunscreen
We’ll say it louder for the people in the back: DON’T SKIP THE SUNSCREEN! The sun damages your skin in so many ways, it’s ridiculous. Wrinkles and spots, to more serious things like certain cancers, are all directly related to sun exposure.
Sunscreen’s come a long way in the last decade. You can find UV protection in creams, lotions, sprays, and makeup!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Some sunscreens contain an ingredient called Avobenzone when spray on the hair (especially blondes) will oxidize and turn the hair orange and brassy. We recommend looking for a mineral sunscreen of at least 40 SPF. We love the one from Super Goop!
Pack the Packets!
